American Bass-Baritone Kyle Ketelsen has deserved a place on Barihunks for some time. But dropping your pants in a production is a sure fire way to get posted. Here he is in Barcelona this year singing the Catalogue Aria from Don Giovanni.
He studied at the prestigious vocal school at Indiana University and later won First Prize in several international vocal competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council.
So opera has finally sunk to this level! I would hope this would not be tolerated in the United States. Euro Trash directors are bent on destroying opera and they will succeed.
To the person addressing euro trash directors, let's face it. Giovanni is all about sex. Also, after having studied, seen, and most recently performed this show (with kyle i might add) anything to make this dreadful opera more exciting deserves to be tried.
Nudity, perversion, anti-Christian elements, immorality, and sleaze are all features of the Jewish “entertainment”. And find me a place where Jew is not a director, or a producer?
"Nudity, perversion, anti-Christian elements, immorality, and sleaze are all features of the Jewish “entertainment”. And find me a place where Jew is not a director, or a producer?"
OK, that was just appalling. Who the hell are you to post such filth on a music site, even an irreverently fun one like this. Lord God Almight.
How very funny that this anonymous person thinks directors are ruining opera. I am guessing that you don't think entertainment should move with the times. As a director and producer i believe that you are WRONG, We simply search for new ways of making this wonderful form of performance more entertaining and also the try and provoke thought on the subjects in these operas that have had to be dealt with a very conservative way until now. A modern audience wants to see new things not just classics presented in the 'old' way
Um...I do love Mr. Ketelsen, but I'm not sure this staging is the greatest (although I do like the idea of Elvira abusing junk food). New ideas are like anything else--some work better than others. As to the anti-Semitic remarks above--let's hope this individual finds a way to disappear and eat his/her own liver somewhere in private. Now, do we have Mr. Hvorostovsky showing some skin somewhere?
Thank you for a delightful surprise. I look forward to the scene where he swaps clothes with Mr Keenlyside!!
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, it's KetelsEn, not Ketelson in the headline. :-)
ReplyDeleteCall me when you have Erwin Schrott dropping trou!
ReplyDeleteMore, more, more. He's adorable.

ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAHAHA! Honey, you might as well ask for a unicorn for Christmas.
God, I had no idea people were still as anti-Semitic as this. How retro. And pathetic.
