Dmitri Hvorostovsky Sings Pique Dame in '89 and '03
The passage of time has done little to diminish barihunk Dmitri Hvorostovsky's sexy looks or gorgeous voice. Here he is singing the incredibly beautiful aria from Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades fourteen years apart.

Thanks for posting, that was lovely. It's amazing how young he still looks... the only difference is the hair, and a slightly darker timbre.
ReplyDeleteIn the dictionary, under the heading "baritone hair", there should be pictures of Sam Ramey and Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
To my taste, the most beautiful baritone sound I've ever heard.
ReplyDeleteThis aria sounds easy, but it's really a killer because there's nowhere to breathe and rest. He holds that last phrase an astonishing 19 seconds in the 1989 clip; 17 seconds in the 2003. I don't know HOW he does it. His lungs must reach down to his ankles.
19 seconds also here, also 2003 (he looks in an even slightly better shape here):
