In January and February of this year the Pittsburgh Opera performed Benjamin Britten's opera "Rape of Lucretia" with their young artists. As always, Lucretia seems to attract the hunkiest singers around and Pittsburgh's production was no exception. Craig Verm cut a dashing figure as Junius, Dan Kempson a matinee idol Tarquinius and Liam Moran was a total stud as Collatinus.
If you missed this performance, the Pittsburgh Opera has some barihunks on their upcoming schedule. Matthew Worth will perform Figaro in the "Barber of Seville," Denis Sedov will portray Raimondo in "Lucia di Lammermoor," and Craig Verm will be back as Ping in "Turandot."

ReplyDeleteDan Kempson is a baritone. You managed to mention the Collatinus and Junius from their Lucretia, but somehow missed that the extremely talented Mr. Kempson was the Tarquinius. (the lead male part)
Is he a barihunk? You betcha...and one who can actually SING!

On top of that Dan Kempson's boyfriend is a talented and often shirtless baritone, Zachary Altman, who's doing Don Giovanni with Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, CA this summer. Twice the barihunk!

I don't think the first anonymous person was saying the Mr. Verm and Mr. Moran can't sing ... just that Mr. Kempson CAN.
ReplyDeleteI watched all three YouTube clips from the production and it sounds like it contained wonderful singing, all-around (from the women too!).
