Schrott and Netrebko Nixed From Salzburg

Hot Schrott & Anna Netrebko
Erwin Schrott is in the middle of a successful run of Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Salzburg Festival. He is playing Figaro opposite the Count of fellow barihunk Simon Keenlyside. The performance was broadcast worldwide yesterday to great acclaim and Schrott remains a fan favorite in the Austrian city.

So it came as a surprise when Schrott and his soprano wife, the equally beautiful Anna Netrebko, gave an interview to the German magazine NEWS and revealed that they are being nixed from future performances after Netrebko's upcoming Boheme.

The worst part of the interview is that they both said that the obvious slight hurts. Netrebko and Schrott are not only rock stars in Austria and at Salzburg in particular, but they have become global ambassadors for the art form. If you want to see Schrott in what appears to be his final performances at Salzburg for awhile there are still limited tickets available for August 4, 11 and 13.

The couple also revealed that they plan on opening up a restaurant in Vienna in the near future. The couple joked that they didn't know yet if the menu would include Churrasco from Schrott's native Uraguay or Borscht from Netrebko's Russia.

"Hot Schrott" sings Tangos

"Hot Schrott" singing tango music
Awhile back we tantalized readers with the news that Erwin Schrott would be releasing an album of tango music on Sony. Although the album isn't completed yet, he has been singing them at recitals and galas throughout the world to great acclaim. Luckily for fans of the singer, they have made their way onto YouTube.

Here is the Uruguayan barihunk singing "Rojo Tango" by Pablo Ziegler. The composer is a Latin Grammy award-winning pianist who was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His music is known for its mixing of classic tango rhythms with jazz improvisations.

"Hot Schrott" and "Not Hot"

The divine La Cieca over at Parterre Box alerted
us to their latest post about Erwin Schrott, which included these pictures and the following blurb:

Hot hot hot Erwin Schrott is obviously not not not allowing fatherhood and impending marriage to distract him from quality gym time. More photos of the Schrott gun show (as seen recently in the Vienna Volksoper Theater an der Wien production of Don Giovanni) after the jump.

There is no doubt that Hot Schrott looks as good as ever in these photos. But then we noticed this picture and blurb from the same production on another opera site that we won't mention since they don't link to Barihunks!

Erwin Schrott as Don Giovanni and Hanno Mueller Brachmann as Leporello in "Don Giovanni" @ Theater an der Wien, conducted by Riccardo Frizza and directed by Keith Warner.

In this photo, Hot Schrott looks likes he's in a remake of "Back to the Future" with fellow barihunk Hanno Müller-Brachmann. The picture below from a Spanish newspaper only reaffirms the movie reference.

I guess this whole production was about how to make Shrott hot and Schrott not hot all in one night. Since this site is about promoting hunkiness in opera, here is one final picture of Schrott and Müller-Brachmann together looking quite adorable.

Don't forget to vote in our hottest Billy Budd contest to the right of this post. We still have 48 hours to go, although Simon Keenlyside seems to be breaking away from the pack.

Erwin Schrott sings the Catalogue Aria

It looks like our "Hottest Barihunk" competition is going to come down to David Adam Moore, Nathan Gunn and Erwin Schrott. I'll post something from each of them over the next three days.

Here's "Hot Shrott" singing from his calling card opera, Don Giovanni. Since Schrott and Gunn both have been honored with nicknames, it's only fair that our current frontrunner for Hottest Barihunk also has a nickname:

David Adam "More, More" Moore.

Don't forget to vote if you haven't already.

QUIZ answer

The answer to our first ever "Guess the Barihunk" quiz is Erwin Shrott. I have added a more flattering picture of our beloved Hot Shrott, so nobody thinks that he came down with a bad case of the uglies.

Hot Schrott profiled on Singular City

Barihunks fans all know that Erwin Schrott is married to sexy diva Anna Netrebko and that they recently had a baby. So it seemed a little ironic that SingularCity.com is running a two-part interview with Hot Schrott (http://www.singularcity.com/december-8-14-2008/173-opera-gets-hot-for-schrott--part-1).

The site describes itself as a place "...where unmarried adults in Los Angeles can come together and celebrate the benefits and positive aspects of the single lifestyle."

We're a little confused, but we're not upset about it since they're running beautiful photos of Hot Shrott, like the one above. Hopefully, the pictures for Part 2 of the interview with be a little more salacious. After all, isn't that what singles want to see?
