Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja - Simon Keenlyside

This is dedicated to the two sisters who can't seem to go a month without seeing Simon Keenlyside on Barihunks. He may be the hottest barihunk over 40 (Nathan Gunn is 39).

  1. I've seen the whole production and I must sat U found it a pretty colorless and joyless one. One bright thing is Keenlyside but even then his Papageno is pretty low keyed.

  3. I agree with you Willym - I bought this on BluRay and colorless is a perfect description. I have to say, however, I don't mind a Papageno that doesn't fly around like a banshee all the time. There isn't a lot of chemistry in this version.

  4. Keenlyside's 'Papageno' is by far, FAR, my choice and the truest performance of this complicated character. Simon turns this often played wank, into an "Everyman". Also, Mc Vicar's production is incredible, insightful, and I would choose it over the ridiculous Taymor production which is, in my opinion, multi-million dollar emptiness. So, 'yes' to those who think it is 'dark'. (& yes Tamino is weak as is, Sir Thomas) "Flute" is a flawed show with incredible music that, if explored, truths emerge. Keenlyside masters this in a way that Prey did in his generation.
