Introducing Canadian Barihunk Bevan Bühler

Bevan Bühler onstage and off
Who says that we don't make dreams come true at Barihunks? Canadian barihunk Bevan Bühler posted the following on Twitter: "My life goal is to be listed on barihunks." We get a lot of requests for singers to appear on the site, but this one seemed like a no-brainer. In 2012, he one of eight finalists in the Discovered international model search, which raised funds for the Children's Wish Foundation.

After completing his Associate Degree in piano performance, Bühler began his journey as a singer when he was given the opportunity to play Rolf in Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music in his hometown of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Since then, Bühler has performed various solo and chamber recitals and has been featured at the Edmonton Vocal Arts Festival and the Saskatoon Music Festival.  Bühler has also joined the casts of Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos and Handel's Alcina with Opera Nuova and has performedin Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Purcell's King Arthur with Saskatoon Opera.

Bühler began his 2014-15 season by singing Ramiro in Maurice Ravel's comedic opera, L'heure Espagnole, presented by University of Western Ontario Opera (UWOpera). Under the direction of Michael Cavanagh, Bühler's character effortlessly was required to lift and carry large clocks on and off stage. To no one's surprise, he got the girl in the end.

Future engagements include the role of the villain, Caiaphas, in Jesus Christ Superstar with Musical Theatre Productions London, as well as performing as a featured soloist with the University of Western Ontario Opera's cast at the University's Opera Gala this spring.

Off stage, Bühler spends his free time outdoors - including replanting forests in British Columbia during the summer - or in the weight room where he is a certified personal trainer.

Singer! Model! Personal Trainer! Socially conscious good-guy! Welcome to the barihunks family!

Richard Alexandre Rittelmann
German-Hungarian barihunk Richard Alexandre Rittelmann has won our online contest for the Best Italian-Themed photo in our 2015 Barihunks Charity Calendar. He will be awarded $250 for his winning photo. Rittelmann's photo shows him posed as the popular fantasy of a shirtless pizza delivery guy holding his a box.

Rittelman just closed a four night run as the Mandarin in Puccini's Turandot at l’Opéra de Nice. He'll be flying back to San Francisco next month, where his photo shoot took place, and promises a "surprise" appearance, possibly with another barihunk.

Kasey Yeargain in Thoroughly Modern Millie

Kasey Yeargain
Kasey Yeargain, who is featured in the Barihunks Charity Calendar this year and is in the running for our Sexiest Picture contest, will be taking a break from opera to perform the role of Trevor Graydon III in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Kasey Yeargain: Before & After
Regular readers will recall that Yeargain was one of the most dramatic Bari-Chunk to Bari-Hunk stories in opera. Going from around 300 pounds and lacking self-esteem to becoming a ripped and confident singer who moonlights as a personal trainer and inspirational blogger on The Opera Bro.You can read all about the inspiration for his weigh loss and his sexy "Tribute to Michelangelo's David" photo for the calendar at his blog.

The role of Trevor Graydon III is perfect for Yeargain, as he's the wealthy head of Sincere Trust Insurance Company who the gold digging Millie sets her sights on snaring. The show will run at the Poteet Theater in Oklahoma City from November 7-December 14 and tickets are available online.

You can purchase a calendar by clicking below. This year, much of the money raised is going directly to the singers who participated.

Barihunks seeking photo submissions for 2015 VIVA, ITALIA! Barihunks Charity Calendar

Xavier Edgardo in the 2014 Barihunks Calendar
It's time to start recruiting singers for our 2015 Barihunks Charity Calendar. This year we have a theme - VIVA, ITALIA! - so we're looking for singers with and Italian pedigree or photos with an Italian theme (i.e. - drinking some Chianti while studying Verdi, enjoying a pizza while shirtless, you name it!!! Use your imagination).

Anthony Reed from the 2014 Barihunks Calendar

Zachary Gordin from the 2014 Barihunks Calendar
As always, every penny of our calendar sales will go to support young artists. Last year, our two largest grants went to pay for students to participate in master classes at Center Stage Opera in the Los Angeles area with barihunk Zachary Gordin, and an innovative concert featuring bass-barihunk Aaron Sørensen and hunkentenor Jonathan Blalock at a jazz club. We also bought music for singers, paid for some voice lessons and bought a tuxedo for an impoverished singer making his U.S. concert debut.

As important it is for people to buy the calendars, we have nothing to sell if singers don't participate. Submissions should be sent to Barihunks@gmail.com.

Listen to calendar model Doug Carpenter in Most Happy Fella

Doug Carpenter
Doug Carpenter has once again created a sensation in our Charity Calendar. This year he appears on our cover, as well as inside the calendar. Some of you may recall his famous "cupcake" shot, which remains one of our most visited pages.

He's currently performing the role of Joey in the 50th Anniversary production of Frank Loesser's Most Happy Fella at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut.  There are plenty of more performances, as the show runs through December 1st. You can also meet Doug Carpenter at two "meet the cast" events on October 31 and November 14. Tickets are available online.

Here's a clip of him performing from the production.

In April, he won $15,000 in the prestigious 2013 Lotte Lenya Competition. You can click HERE to see the famous cupcake picture, as well as listen to his winning set from the Lotte Lenya Competition.
