Erwin Schrott hams it up at Placido Domingo's 70th Birthday Gala at the Teatro Real in Madrid singing "Madamina, il catalogo è questo" from Mozart's Don Giovanni.
Barihunk Erwin Schrott joined his equally beautiful wife Anna Netrebko for a concert in her native Russia. The performance was at the Rimsky-Korsakov Theater in St. Petersburg and featured arias and duets, including Schrott singing the Catalogue Aria from "Don Giovanni."
The couple sang duets from Donizetti's L’Elisir d’Amore, Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and Lehar's Die lustige Witwe.
It is rare that we feature a video that doesn't show a barihunk, but this latest promo video from Berkeley Opera is so ingenious that we couldn't resist. The aria is sung by Igor Vieira, who sings Leporello in the production. The Don Giovanni is being sung by Eugene Brancoveanu, a major talent on the operatic horizon who has previously appeared on this site. The video was created by Jeremy Knight and follows the famous catalogue aria on iPhone apps. This is the type of stuff that opera companies need to do in order to make the art form relevant to younger audiences.
Don Giovanni is running until February 28 and tickets can be purchased at the Berkeley Opera website. If you plan on going, order now, as some performances are almost completely sold out. ************************************* Subscribe to Barihunks by Email *************************************
It looks like our "Hottest Barihunk" competition is going to come down to David Adam Moore, Nathan Gunn and Erwin Schrott. I'll post something from each of them over the next three days.
Here's "Hot Shrott" singing from his calling card opera, Don Giovanni. Since Schrott and Gunn both have been honored with nicknames, it's only fair that our current frontrunner for Hottest Barihunk also has a nickname:
