Edwin Crossley-Mercer in Opera and Song

Edwin Crossley-Mercer: Amazing recitalist
We named Edwin Crossley-Mercer our hottest recitalist in our "Best of 2010" feature. There really aren't many baritones, hot or not, who are better in the art of lied and chanson than this 28-year-old singer. His insights, phrasing and singing are nothing short of magnificent. Unfortunately, there isn't much on the web or on his management site. However, we did find this charming clip of him working on Papageno at Aix-en-Provence and a video of him singing "Autumn Leaves" (Les Feuilles Mortes) in French. Enjoy!

  1. Interesting that you should have something with "Autumn Leaves." Roger Williams, the composer of that song, is in the news - he's battling pancreatic cancer.

    1. Mr Crossley-Mercer will be giving a recital at Carnegie Hall, I see, on March 3rd 2014. To my knowledge the songs have been written by one of your musician and composer fellow countrymen from Tennessee, Mr H. Smith, I believe. This information is subject to caution, but I believe it to be reasonably reliable. The recital date has been scheduled, I learned this morning.

    2. The poetry of Catullus has been put to music by Michael Linton. I was mistaken in the name of the composer. Here is a quote from the article on Internet. With apologies:

"Two song cycles to poems by the contemporary Italian/American Cody Franchetti and the ancient Roman poet Catullus will be premiered at the Weill Recital Hall in New York City's Carnegie Hall March 3, 2014. The event will also be the first appearance in New York of the French bass-baritone Edwin Crossley-Mercer. The songs are the works of Michael Linton, a prize-winning composer based in Tennessee."
