The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia continues to churn out barihunks like Beyonce churns out hit songs. Meet Nicholas Masters, an adorable bass who recently performed in Monteverdi's "Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria" and Puccini's "La Boheme" at Wolf Trap Opera. At AVA he has performed in Lucia di Lammermoor, Falstaff and Anna Bolena.

A SEXY Don Giovanni at New York City Opera

If this is the look of the George Steel era at New York City Opera then we at Barihunks heartily approve. There was a lot of controversy and discussion about his hiring, particularly amongst opera aficionados on the East Coast. From what we heard from people who had worked with him, we knew all along that he would make the "People's Opera" interesting and he's lived up to his reputation.

Visionary director Christopher Alden reimagines this masterwork in a thrilling new production which explores the intersection of dark eroticism and strict Spanish-Catholic tradition in the early 20th century. Rising star Daniel Okulitch makes his City Opera debut as the notorious antihero.

It is important the New York City has two major opera companies and this production shows why. City Opera will put on productions that one will never see at the Met. If you're in the New York, we encourage you to support this new regime which is working its way back to financial viability.

See David Krohn for FREE (but with his shirt on)

For those of you in the New York area, you can go see barihunk David Krohn for free at his Julliard recital concert. It will take place on November 17 in Julliard's Paul Hall at 8 PM.

He'll be performing Handel's "Dalla Guerra Amorosa", Schubert's "3 Gesänge des Harfners" and Ravel's "Histoires Naturelles."

Krohn has been featured on Barihunks three times before and he's building quite a following as he launches his career.

Randal Turner Feeling Blue

I'm always shocked at what some directors will do to an opera. This performance of Rossini's Mose in Egitto is no exception. If one were tasked with rubbing down Randal Turner, it wouldn't be with blue body paint! Of course, the ever-popular barihunk still looks incredibly sexy. Tenor Pablo Cameselle, who is actually quite cute looks like Alberto Gonzalez on Halloween in this production(check him out at http://www.pablocameselle.com/ singing an almost campy "O mes amis").

I've received three emails asking me how I could forget Rod Gilfry in a tribute to American barihunks. Although I stated my list wasn't comprehensive, he certainly is worth looking at on a long holiday weekend. He also seems to be having a lot of fun in this video of The Barber of Seville.

Giving Thanks to American Barihunks

During this uniquely American holiday weekend, I thought that it would be appropriate to give thanks to the abundance of American barihunks in our midst. From top to bottom you'll find Indiana native Randal Turner, one of the cutest and most charming singers in the world today; Franco Pomponi, whose sultry looks and animal magnetism can steal the show regardless of who else is on the stage; North Carolina native Michael Todd Simpson, whose tall, striking presence and warm, rich baritone are a sheer delight; Illinois resident Nathan Gunn who many claim was the inspiration for the term Barihunk and who certainly has personified the term; and, the deeply profound Texas native David Adam Moore, who has made modern opera sexy.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of American Barihunks, but it certainly represents the hottest and most popular barihunks on this site. I can always tell when Nathan Gunn is on TV, because the site visits go through the roof.

I also want to take time to thank all of the Barihunks fans who send me pictures and suggestions. I am planning some upgrades to the site in the near future, due to some great suggestions from readers. I try to respond to everyone and am committed to posting as many hot singers as possible. My apologies to those who don't make the cut.
