Schrott Shots

Hot Shrott
We just NEVER get tired of looking at Erwin "Hot" Schrott, so here are two more pictures from his recent performance of Le Nozze di Figaro in Vienna.

The Uruguayan bass-baritone now heads off to Valencia where he will perform Dulcamara in an updated production of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore. The performance opens on March 26 and runs through April 10. It's also an opportunity to hear the amazing Nemorino of tenor Ramon Vargas.

Erwin Schrott Switches Teams

A Decca Promotional Shot of Erwin Schrott

Barihunk Erwin Schrott aka "Hot Schrott" is switching his recording label from Decca to Sony Classical.

The Uruguayan singer has signed an “exclusive, long-term agreement” with Sony Classical and will release his first CD in April 2011. The recording will feature music from his native South America, and include tangos by Astor Piazzolla, Pablo Ziegler and Juan Carlos Coblan, as well as songs from Argentina and Brazil.

Next year will feature a heavy dose of Mozart, as he sings Leporello and Figaro at Salzburg, Don Giovanni in Berlin and the Count in Vienna.

Keep in mind that we're still posting Messiah's where barihunks are performing. Send us your listing to Barihunks@gmail.com.

Maltman & Schrott Reprise Salburz Giovanni

[Dorothea Roeschmann as Donna Elvira and Erwin Schrott as Leporello]

Two of our favorite barihunks, Christopher Maltman and Erwin Schrott, are joining forces as Don Giovanni and Leporello respectivley. This somewhat controversial production of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" is returning to the 2010 Salzburg Festival and opens on August 9th.

Astute readers of this site may recall our post of the two singers together in this production from 2008.

Imagine Randal Turner Dressed Like This

[Left - Erwin Schrott in Don Giovanni; Right - Randal Turner]

Every so often Barihunks proclaims an upcoming performance a "must see" event. The recent Don Giovanni at New York City Opera was certainly one of those. The latest is the April run of Don Giovanni at the Michigan Opera Theater featuring Randal Turner, who won our "Sexiest Don Giovanni" contest last year.

The production is John Pascoe's extremely sexy version that starred barihunk Erwin Schrott at Washington National Opera in 2007 [see photo above]. Schrott was pretty damn sexy in those costumes and we can't wait to see Randal Turner show off his stuff on stage. Not only is Turner a gifted singer and certifiable barihunk, but he was trained as a dancer and can move on stage like few other singers.

By the way, the extremely talented Kelly Kaduce will be singing Donna Elvira. We mention this because she is married to barihunk Lee Gregory and we couldn't pass up an excuse to post this sexy picture of him.

Hot Schrott profiled on Singular City

Barihunks fans all know that Erwin Schrott is married to sexy diva Anna Netrebko and that they recently had a baby. So it seemed a little ironic that SingularCity.com is running a two-part interview with Hot Schrott (http://www.singularcity.com/december-8-14-2008/173-opera-gets-hot-for-schrott--part-1).

The site describes itself as a place "...where unmarried adults in Los Angeles can come together and celebrate the benefits and positive aspects of the single lifestyle."

We're a little confused, but we're not upset about it since they're running beautiful photos of Hot Shrott, like the one above. Hopefully, the pictures for Part 2 of the interview with be a little more salacious. After all, isn't that what singles want to see?

Happy Birthday, Erwin Schrott

[Pictured with his wife soprano Anna Netrebko on a holiday card from http://anna-netrebko.blogspot.com]

Uber-Barihunk Erwin Schrott turns 36 today and this site would like to wish him a Happy Birthday! Erwin, if you're honoring the old tradition of a birthday spanking, I think we have plenty of volunteers.

Also, in the Bradelina tradition, we're now dubbing you and your wife Schrottko.

Oh, to be one of these women...

Erwin "Hot" Schrott seems to have this effect with people on stage and off. When Leporello sings that he's seduces 1,003 women in Spain, the line usually draws a laugh. When I saw him perform the role in New York, there wasn't a peep, as if the audience was saying in unison, "That seems about right!"

The Marketing of Erwin Schrott

[All photos from the Decca marketing video, except for "Mythic," which is a D&G model looking like the next Schrott album cover.]

After years of watching the sexy, glamorous marketing of sopranos, it looks like the guys are finally getting their turn. Who better to launch the glamorfest than hunky Erwin Schrott and Decca is going all out with Dolce & Gabbana-looking press photos, videos and interviews with Schrott in his barihunkiest roles. I can't wait for the Netrebko-Schrott duet album, which undoubtedly is in the works.

I'm glad to see that opera is keeping up with pop culture when it comes to sexy. This is what will keep opera alive, especially if they continue to market singers who look good AND who can sing.

You are about to see Erwin Schrott's briefs!

Legal briefs, that is. According to Tom Service on the Guardian blog, Schrott is being sued for having canceled two performances.

It's just been confirmed that Erwin Schrott, the beefcake of the international baritone world, and the man that many straight male opera-lovers love to hate (he's affianced to the Russian diva du jour Anna Netrebko), is to be issued with High Court proceedings by Ian Rosenblatt.

Schrott is being sued as he cancelled not one, but two appearances as part of the Rosenblatt Recitals series; the first three years ago, the latest this spring.

Where many promoters would simply grit their teeth and pander to the suddenly indisposed star, Rosenblatt instead asked Schrott to make a donation to charity for the same amount that he'd cost the series after the last cancellation, a concert with the Philharmonia that should have taken place in June. Schrott refused.

Rosenblatt's reaction was uncompromising: "I was disgusted by Mr Schrott's previous disregard for his audience and his contractual obligations, but to then turn down an offer to settle by making a payment to charity is a new low even for him. Therefore, proceedings have now been issued in the High Court and we await his return to the UK so that they can be served".

He's also been reported saying, "He's a fool. He refused to explain why he was cancelling. Now he's hiding from me, but I'm going to hunt him down."

Stud with a stud

Has anyone noticed that stud Erwin Schrott is sporting a stud? Hopefully, there will be photos to reveal any other piercings.
