Introducing Barihunk Evan Bravo; Joining Santa Barbara Young Artist Program

Barihunk Evan Bravos was recommended to us by one of our Southern California readers, who pointed out that the Greek-American singer will be performing in two upcoming free concerts.

Bravos recently joined the Mosher Studio Artists at Opera Santa Barbara along with soprano Elizabeth Kelsay, mezzo-soprano Molly Clementz, baritone Evan Bravos, and pianists/coaches Christopher Turbessi and Catherine Miller. The artists will be featured in two concerts, the first on October 10 at Shepard Hall at the Santa Maria Public Library and the second on October 12 at the Solvang Public Library. Both performances will begin at noon and are free to the public.

Bravos is a St. Charles, Illinois native, who was a 2015-2016 Emerging Artist at Virginia Opera, where he performed in A Trickster Trilogy, the company’s fall Education Tour. In the previous season, he was an Apprentice Artist at the Central City Opera, where he recieved an Apprentice Artist Award. He was also the recipient of an Encouragement Award in the 2014 Metropolitan National Council auditions.

During his time as a Mosher Studio Artist, Bravos will sing Dancairo and cover Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen, sing Harashta in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen and Rabonier in Puccini's La Rondine).You can listen to him at his website.

Other recent performances include Count Almaviva in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro with Central City Opera, Figaro in Rossini's The Barber of Seville with Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Martin in Bernstein's Candide at the Aspen Music Festival.

Rodolfo Nieto in free night of love songs

American barihunk Rodolfo Nieto, who we introduced to readers during his run as Jose Castro in Minnesota Opera's La Fanciulla del West two months ago, will be giving a free recital on Friday, November 21st. The free concert at Bemis Rehearsal Hall will include love songs by Richard Strauss, Schubert, Chausson, Fauré, and Tosti.

The concert is free, but an RSVP is requested.  If you can't make the recital, you can listen to him HERE singing some Schubert songs.

Evan Boyer featured in free outdoor concert in Chicago

Evan Boyer will be part of an all-star operatic cast at a free outdoor concert at Chicago's Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on Saturday, September 7, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is being presented by the Lyric Opera of Chicago. If you can't be there, the concert will be broadcast live on carried live on 98.7WFMT and wfmt.com, which is available online.  

Boyer will be joined by conductor Ward Stare, soprano Ana María Martínez, soprano Albina Shagimuratova, hunkentenor James Valenti, as well as members of the Ryan Opera Center.

Music will include selections from Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Wagner’s Lohengrin, Verdi’s Otello, Verdi’s Il trovatore and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.

A Barihunk connected recital with Daniel Teadt and Karen Roethlisberger Verm

On Saturday, March 23rd, barihunk Daniel Teadt will perform a free program of Benjamin Britten, Hugo Wolf, Samuel Barber and Gerald Finzi. He will be accompanied by pianist Karen Roethlisberger Verm, who happens to be the wife of barihunk Craig Verm. She also took the pictures of Craig Verm that graced our calendar's cover this year. The concert starts at 2 pm at the Kresge Theater at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Teadt has sung major roles in opera houses throughout the United States and Europe including Pittsburgh Opera, Arizona Opera, Aix-en-Provençe Festival in Luxembourg, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Tacoma Opera, Central City Opera, Tri-Cities Opera and Pittsburgh Opera Theater. He has been on the roster of the New York City Opera for several seasons and toured nationally with the San Francisco Opera. 

Teadt is currently a voice instructor at Washington & Jefferson College and Clarion University. He also runs a private voice studio in Pittsburgh.
