Benoit Pitre in new adaptation of The Little Prince

Canadian barihunk Benoit Pitre is starring as the Pilot in the latest adaptation of The Little Prince (Der kleine Prinz). The new version is from former singer and composer Deborah Sasson and librettist/choreographer Jochen Sautter, who based the libretto on the French version of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's book  Le petit prince.

The show is opening on December 12th in Niedernhausen and then touring throughout Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Some of the major cities where it's playing include Hannover, Innsbruck, Bonn, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Basel, Munich, Zürich, Vienna and Hamburg. You can check out the entire tour schedule HERE. 

The Little Prince is a poetic tale in which a pilot stranded in the desert meets a young prince fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid. The Little Prince makes several observations about life and human nature.

Pitre recently collaborated with the Balletto Civile for the premiere of Pizzeria Anarchia, a coproduction of the Teatro della Tosse Genova, the Musiktheatertage Wien and the Neuköllner Oper, portraying the Opera Singer/Viennese Police Chief.  Earlier this year he made his long awaited début as Don Giovanni in Berlin and performed the role of Siméon in a staged version of Debussy's L'enfant prodigue.

Canadian barihunk will be part of this month's Opera on Tap Berlin. The April theme is  "Frühlings Gefühle/Spring Fever, " The event will be at the popular cafe and concert venue Prachtwerk Berlin.

Joining Pitre for an evening of arias, duets, art song and operetta will be some of Berlin's best young talent including countertenor Leo Zappitelli, Anne Byrne, Anastasia Nikolova, Sarah Ring, Claudia Roick, Atalya Tirosh and accompanist Manuel Arellano.

The festivities start at 7:30 PM with some good German beer and the singing kicks of at 8:00 PM.  Rumor has it that another popular barihunk based in Berlin will be at the event.

Benoit Pitre featured in night of sacred music

Canadian barihunk Benoit Pitre will be singing Simeon in Debussy's sacred cantata L'Enfant prodigue (The Prodigal Son) with Sakrale Opera in Berlin on March 20 and 22. The piece tells the Biblical story of the return of the Prodigal Son in a series of arias, ensembles and orchestral interludes. The work will be performed again on April 17th. Tickets are available online.

The program also includes Dvorak's Biblical Songs and will be performed at the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche. He'll be performing two of the songs.

Benoit Pitre buffs up for Don Giovanni debut

Canadian barihunk Benoit Pitre, who we introduced to readers back in July 2014, is currently singing his dream role of Don Giovanni in his home base of Berlin, Germany. The German adaptation of the piece is being performed at the Hauptstadtoper, with upcoming performances on March 6, April 26, May 28, June 11 and June 20.

Pitre informed us that he's been working out since Christmas to ensure that he did justice to the shirtless direction. Additional information is available online. He made his European debut as Don Giovanni's sidekick Leporello with the Komischen Kammeroper in Munich.

On March 20th, he'll perform Siméon in Debussy's L'enfant prodigue with Sakrale Oper in Berlin.

Canadian Bass-Barihunk Benoit Pitre is new to our site. He came to our attention when we noticed that he'll be performing Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro beginning next week on July 23th at the Neues Theatre in Halle before moving the production for three performance at Hauptstadtoper in Berlin.

Pitre received his degree in music performance from McGill University, following initial musical studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

He recently performed the roles of Don Pizzaro and Don Fernando in the Stefan Neugebauer production of Beethoven's Fidelio in Berlin and Lord Cecil in Opera Sacra's production of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda. Previous operatic engagements saw him as the Count Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Festivale della Lirica in Vale, Argentina and as Guglielmo in Mozart's Mozart's Così fan tutte at the Volkstheater Weimar. He also traveled as Peter in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and Papageno in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte on outreach tours throughout Austria, Germany and northern Italy during his first years in Europe.

Also committed to song recitals and promoting contemporary repertoire, he performed on multiple occasions with luminaries such as accompanist Roger Vignoles. Earlier this month he performed a series of recitals promoting songs of his native Quebec and contemporary New York composers.
Pitre was a recipient of a Tanglewood Music Center and a Junge Musiker Stiftung Bayreuth fellowship.
