Samuel Ramey on Sesame Street: The Letter "L"

Samuel Ramey on Sesame Street

We want to thank the Dallas Opera for posting this wonderful video of Samuel Ramey on Facebook. He teaches kids about the letter "L" by singing a revised version of the Torreador Song. The episode originally aired on January 17, 1996. Next year, Samuel Ramey will be celebrating his 70th birthday!

Make sure to check out the 2011-12 Dallas Opera season, which includes Wagner's "Tristan & Isolde," Verdi's "La Traviata," Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor," Mozart's "The Magic Flute" and Peter Maxwell Davies' "The Lighthouse."

Barihunk Breakout in Philly

Troy Cook performs in Philly (Ryan Collerd - The New York Times)
Troy Cook, who is one of only three barihunks to appear "The Full Okulitch" on this site was recently part of a New York Times article on the latest hot trend in opera, "Random Acts of Culture." These "spontaneous" public breakouts of opera have recently occurred at the Ferry Building in San Francisco, London's train stations, New York City and even Akron, Ohio.

Here is a video of Cook's performance at Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market where he is joined by fellow barihunks Norman Garrett and Daniel Mobbs. If anyone doesn't believe that music is good for the soul, check out the sheer joy on the faces of the people watching. They sure look happier than Phillies or Eagles fans.

Grant Doyle To Sing Mozart's Count

It's been two years since we featured the emerging barihunk Grant Doyle. The Australian singer caught our eye singing Demetrius in Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." We were wondering what he's been up to and were delighted to see that he'll be portraying the Count in "Le Nozze di Figaro" at Garsington Opera this summer.

We also noticed that he's set up a YouTube site and he has his first video up and running. Here he is singing the Torreador's song from Carmen:

Kwiecien's Tight Pants

(Photo: KEN HOWARD/ METROPOLITAN OPERA)

This photo caption from the Gay City News is our favorite one ever: "In 'Carmen,' the dashing Mariusz Kwiecien filled out his tight toreador pants with his customary barihunk swagger."

Did he ever!!!
