André Courville to perform at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Bass-barihunk André Courville will perform as part of Opera at Florham's "A Cornucopia of Opera and Song" on November 6th at Lenfell Hall on the campus of the College at Florham of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Courville will perform Gounod's “Vous, qui faites l'endormie” from Faust. He performed the role of Méphistophélès in Faust while at the cademy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where he is a resident artist. He'll be joined by soprano Mia Pafumi and tenor Piotr Buszewski.

Last season Courville debuted at Carnegie Hall in the Opera Orchestra of New York's acclaimed production of Donizetti's Roberto Devereux and as Monterone in Verdi's Rigoletto with the Caramoor Summer Music Festival. Courville also recently won first prize at Opera at Florham’s 2016 Violetta DuPont Competition.

He'll also be performing at the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation 42nd Anniversary Gala Concert on October 23 at Rose Hall at Lincoln Center and will reprise Monterone with the Academy of Vocal Arts from November 5-15.

Ricardo Crampton performing Count in Le Nozze di Figaro

In January, we introduced readers to 30-year-old Argentinian barihunk Ricardo Crampton. He's currently performing the Count in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Carlo Felice, which live streamed a performance of the opera on March 14th. Fortunately, we have audio of his performance of "Hai già vinta la causa"

There is a performance today with an alternate cast, but Crampton has one remaining performance on March 18th. He'll be returning to his native Argentina to perform Gounod's Roméo et Juliette at the Buenos Aires Lirica from October 17-25.

Ildar Abdrazakov kicks of the San Francisco Opera's 2013-14 season

Russian bass-barihunk Ildar Abdrazakov kicks of the San Francisco Opera's 2013-14 season in his staged role debut as the title character of Boito’s Mefistofele. Performances will run from September 6-October 2 with an all-star cast that includes Ramón Vargas as Faust and Patricia Racette as Margherita. Tickets are available online.

The company last presented the opera in 1989 and 1994 in historic performances with Samuel Ramey in the title role. Ramey's performance was captured on DVD and has become a collector's item amongst opera aficionados.

Following his run in San Francisco, Abdrazakov will help celebrate Verdi’s 200th birthday on October 10 in a performance of the Requiem under Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The performance will be transmitted around the world at www.cso.org/Verdi. From November 3-17 he will take part in a string of Berlioz concert performances with the London Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev in London and Paris, including La damnation de Faust and Roméo et Juliette.

Listen to Michael Mayes & Edward Hanlon in Don Giovanni on Iowa Public Radio

If you're like us and can't wait to see and hear Michael Mayes in Glory Denied at the Fort Worth Opera Festival then you can catch him online on Saturday, April 6th. Mayes and fellow barihunk Edward Hanlon performed the opera during the Des Moines Metro Opera’s 40th Anniversary season last year. The performance will be at 7 PM CST on Iowa Public Radio.

The broadcast is part of Iowa Public Radio's Arias in April series opens. Don Giovanni will be followed by two other broadcasts from the Des Moines Metro Opera, Puccini’s La Rondine on April 13th and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin on April 20th.

This season, the Des Moines Metro Opera will feature barihunk calendar model Craig Verm, who will be performing Mercutio in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette and Ned Keene in Britten's Peter Grimes. Their other opera is Richard Strauss' Elektra. Visit their website for additional information.

David Adam Moore at Le Poisson Rouge

Barihunk David Adam Moore will join pianist Inna Faliks and Sandra Beasley are featured at the Music/Words opening at Le Poisson Rouge on Sunday, September 23rd at 7:30pm.

Moore will perform the world premiere of John Eaton's “Songs of Nature ... and Beyond,” a song cycle for baritone and piano. Faliks will also play Beethoven’s Sonata opus 111 in c minor and John Corigliano's Fantasia on an Ostinato.
